Epstein Wanted To “Seed Human Race With His DNA.” Bill Gates & Epstein Had A Relationship. Gates Has Compared DNA To A “Computer Program.” It Is Known That Ancient Viruses Of The Past Are Embedded Within Our Human DNA. Scientists Have Used Viruses To Alter DNA. All A Coincidence?

NY Times: Jeffrey Epstein Hoped to Seed Human Race With His DNA. Jeffrey E. Epstein, the wealthy financier who is accused of sex trafficking, had an unusual dream: He hoped to seed the human race with his DNA by impregnating women at his vast New Mexico ranch.
Mr. Epstein’s vision reflected his longstanding fascination with what has become known as transhumanism: the science of improving the human population through technologies like genetic engineering and artificial intelligence. Critics have likened transhumanism to a modern-day version of eugenics, the discredited field of improving the human race through controlled breeding.
Mr. Epstein attracted a glittering array of prominent scientists. They included the Nobel Prize-winning physicist Murray Gell-Mann, who discovered the quark; the theoretical physicist and best-selling author Stephen Hawking; the paleontologist and evolutionary biologist Stephen Jay Gould; Oliver Sacks, the neurologist and best-selling author; George M. Church, a molecular engineer who has worked to identify genes that could be altered to create superior humans; and the M.I.T. theoretical physicist Frank Wilczek, a Nobel laureate. The lure for some of the scientists was Mr. Epstein’s money. He dangled financing for their pet projects. Some of the scientists said that the prospect of financing blinded them to the seriousness of his sexual transgressions, and even led them to give credence to some of Mr. Epstein’s half-baked scientific musings. Scientists gathered at dinner parties at Mr. Epstein’s Manhattan mansion, where Dom Pérignon and expensive wines flowed freely, even though Mr. Epstein did not drink. He hosted buffet lunches at Harvard’s Program for Evolutionary Dynamics, which he had helped start with a $6.5 million donation.
Then there was Mr. Epstein’s interest in eugenics. On multiple occasions starting in the early 2000s, Mr. Epstein told scientists and businessmen about his ambitions to use his New Mexico ranch as a base where women would be inseminated with his sperm and would give birth to his babies, according to two award-winning scientists and an adviser to large companies and wealthy individuals, all of whom Mr. Epstein told about it.
According to Mr. Lanier, the NASA scientist said Mr. Epstein had based his idea for a baby ranch on accounts of the Repository for Germinal Choice, which was to be stocked with the sperm of Nobel laureates who wanted to strengthen the human gene pool. (Only one Nobel Prize winner has acknowledged contributing sperm to it. The repository discontinued operations in 1999.) Mr. Lanier, the virtual-reality creator and author, said he had the impression that Mr. Epstein was using the dinner parties — where some guests were attractive women with impressive academic credentials — to screen candidates to bear Mr. Epstein’s children. Mr. Epstein did not hide his interest in tinkering with genes — and in perpetuating his own DNA. One adherent of transhumanism said that he and Mr. Epstein discussed the financier’s interest in cryonics, an unproven science in which people’s bodies are frozen to be brought back to life in the future. Mr. Epstein told this person that he wanted his head and penis to be frozen. Southern Trust Company, Mr. Epstein’s Virgin Island-incorporated business, disclosed in a local filing that it was engaged in DNA analysis. Calls to Southern Trust, which sponsored a science and math fair for school children in the Virgin Islands in 2014, were not returned.
“DNA is like a computer program but far, far more advanced than any software ever created.” - Bill Gates
Bill Gates Met With Jeffrey Epstein Many Times, Despite His Past
Few, though, compared in prestige and power to the world’s second-richest person, a brilliant and intensely private luminary: Bill Gates. And unlike many others, Mr. Gates started the relationship after Mr. Epstein was convicted of sex crimes. Mr. Gates, the Microsoft co-founder, whose $100 billion-plus fortune has endowed the world’s largest charitable organization, has done his best to minimize his connections to Mr. Epstein. “I didn’t have any business relationship or friendship with him,” he told The Wall Street Journal last month. In fact, beginning in 2011, Mr. Gates met with Mr. Epstein on numerous occasions — including at least three times at Mr. Epstein’s palatial Manhattan townhouse, and at least once staying late into the night, according to interviews with more than a dozen people familiar with the relationship, as well as documents reviewed by The New York Times. Employees of Mr. Gates’s foundation also paid multiple visits to Mr. Epstein’s mansion. And Mr. Epstein spoke with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and JPMorgan Chase about a proposed multibillion-dollar charitable fund — an arrangement that had the potential to generate enormous fees for Mr. Epstein.
The Gates Foundation recently joined a new $460 million global coalition to prevent epidemics. He said the focus will be on rapidly developing vaccines. “The good news is,” he said “science has these RNA, DNA-type vaccines that you might literally in a period of months be able to create something new instead of the many years that it takes now.”
Why Bill Gates is betting on a start-up that prints synthetic DNA
Four years later the Boston-based synthetic biology start-up, founded by a team of MIT scientists in 2009, has raised $429 million, including from Cascade Investment, the asset management firm of Bill Gates, and is reportedly worth $1 billion. Over the last several years, Ginkgo has developed an automated process for combining genetic parts that has made it the largest designer of printed DNA in the world.
Essentially, synthetic biology involves reconfiguring the genome of an organism to get it to do something entirely new. Kelly likens it to computer programming, only with genetic sequences. So think of DNA as computer code, and then imagine you can design sequences of DNA on the computer, physically print out those sequences, and insert them into microorganisms such as yeast and bacteria so they make products like rose-scented oil for perfume or sweeteners for beverages.
DNA as a computer program...where have I also heard that from....🤔
"We're learning how to rewrite the code of life," said Frances Arnold, a professor of chemical engineering, bioengineering, and biochemistry at the California Institute of Technology. "We're seeing a move toward making things that either chemistry cannot make or can't make efficiently but biology does." The idea of modifying the DNA of organisms precedes the moniker of synthetic biology by many years. Genetic modification dates back to the 1980s, and genetic engineering for biofuels in the agricultural, pharmaceutical and energy industry has been common practice for some time. Think of Monsanto's Bt corn, which uses a modified bacteria to protect crops from damaging insects, and you have the idea. Such work has normally been the purview of highly trained scientists, but companies like Ginkgo are catching fire now, thanks to a confluence of factors. "We can read DNA and write DNA very cheaply now. We can synthesize DNA in ways we couldn't just five years ago," Arnold said.
Bill and Melinda Gates shined a spotlight on at-home DNA tests like 23andMe, calling them one of last year's biggest surprises
It’s going to be a big year for at-home DNA tests. The spit-in-a-tube kits, which offer the ability to learn more about your heritage and — to a lesser extent — your health, have spiked in popularity in recent years. And now that at least 19 million people have used Ancestry and 23andMe’s kits, Bill and Melinda Gates are shining a spotlight on the tests' surprising utility in two fairly divergent areas: crime and maternal health. In their yearly letter, the Gateses called genetic tests the second-biggest surprise of 2018. "We didn’t see this coming," the Gateses wrote at the top of their letter.
More ancient viruses lurk in our DNA than we thought
Think your DNA is all human? Think again. And a new discovery suggests it's even less human than scientists previously thought. Nineteen new pieces of non-human DNA -- left by viruses that first infected our ancestors hundreds of thousands of years ago -- have just been found, lurking between our own genes. And one stretch of newfound DNA, found in about 50 of the 2,500 people studied, contains an intact, full genetic recipe for an entire virus, say the scientists who published their findings in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Whether or not it can replicate, or reproduce, it isn't yet known. But other studies of ancient virus DNA have shown it can affect the humans who carry it. In addition to finding these new stretches, the scientists also confirmed 17 other pieces of virus DNA found in human genomes by other scientists in recent years.
The findings add to what science already knows about human endogenous retroviruses, or HERVs. That's the name for the ancient infectious viruses that inserted a DNA-based copy of their own RNA genetic material into our ancestors' genomes. They're part of the same type of virus that includes the modern human immunodeficiency virus, which causes AIDS. Over generations, the virus-generated DNA kept getting copied and handed down when humans reproduced. That's how it ended up in our DNA today. In fact, about 8 percent of what we think of as our "human" DNA actually came from viruses. In some cases, HERV sequences have been adopted by the human body to serve a useful purpose, such as one that helps pregnant women's bodies build a cell layer around a developing fetus to protect it from toxins in the mother's blood.
NY Times: Ancient Viruses Are Buried in Your DNA
In July, scientists reported that a strange protein courses through the veins of pregnant women. No one is sure what it’s there for. What makes this protein, called Hemo, so unusual is that it’s not made by the mother. Instead, it is made in her fetus and in the placenta, by a gene that originally came from a virus that infected our mammalian ancestors more than 100 million years ago. Hemo is not the only protein with such an alien origin: Our DNA contains roughly 100,000 pieces of viral DNA. Altogether, they make up about 8 percent of the human genome. And scientists are only starting to figure out what this viral DNA is doing to us.
Some of our ancient viruses may be protecting us from disease; others may be raising our risks for cancer, among other conditions. “It’s not an either-or — are these things good or bad? It’s a lot more complicated than that,” Dr. Katzourakis said in an interview. “We’re barely at the beginning of this research.” Most of our viral DNA comes from one group in particular: retroviruses, a group that includes HIV. A retrovirus invades a host cell and inserts its genes into that cell’s DNA. These viral genes co-opt the cell’s machinery, using it to make new viruses that escape to infect more cells. If a retrovirus happens to infect an egg or sperm, its DNA can potentially be passed to the next generation and the generation after that. Once retroviruses become inherited stowaways, scientists refer to them as endogenous retroviruses. At first, endogenous retroviruses coax cells to make more retroviruses that can infect other cells. But over the generations, the viral DNA mutates, and endogenous retroviruses eventually lose the ability to infect new cells. Even after being hobbled, these endogenous retroviruses can still sometimes make their proteins. And they can also reproduce, after a fashion. They can force cells to make copies of their DNA, which are inserted back in the cell’s own genome. After a single infection, an endogenous retrovirus may build up hundreds of copies of itself in its host’s DNA.
Different viruses infect different types of cells. HIV, for example, infects immune cells, while cold and flu viruses infect cells in the respiratory tract. But one thing viruses have in common is their ability to insert their own genetic material into the DNA of the host cell, altering its function. That trait alone has potential therapeutic uses. Imagine viruses as a Trojan horse of sorts - able to gain entrance into a human cell and deposit its genetic stash, good or bad.
Scientists now believe that they may be able to engineer viruses that target certain diseases, or that boost our own immune system when it's under attack from cancer. In fact, every virus that is studied for therapeutic benefits has been genetically modified in a lab. Some have been changed to be more focused in the types of cells they target, or to attack a disease on multiple fronts. "Some of these viruses, they're like an iPhone - you can put in all these different apps," said Dr. David Kirn, chief medical director of San Francisco-based Jennerex, where he's studying the vaccinia virus to fight liver cancer.
Scientists make first attempt to permanently change a person’s DNA to cure a disease
"We cut your DNA, open it up, insert a gene, stitch it back up. Invisible mending," said Dr Sandy Macrae, president of Sangamo Therapeutics, the California company testing this strategy for two metabolic diseases and haemophilia. "It becomes part of your DNA and is there for the rest of your life."
Remember this?
The coronavirus may be “reactivating” in people who have been cured of the illness, according to Korea’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Thought experiment: Could coronavirus be a manmade virus produced to alter human DNA over time? What is the end goal?

Dear Jordan Peterson
Hello, my name is Geoffrey, I am 44 years old and live in Australia. This is the first time I have written a letter such as this so excuse me if I share to much or not enough. I understand that you will be getting thousands of letters a week, some positive, some not so. Mine for the most part is positive asking questions/advice and of course about me and my thoughts so you know where I am coming from. I found you by clicking on the home button on YouTube, before this I had never heard of you.
My parents were ten-pound Poms, I was born in Australia, I have 2 older brothers and 1 sister, when I was 5 my brother was murdered. Not long after mum gave up work and decided to become a housewife, my dad had always worked long hours to provide for his family, growing up I remember sneaking into his bedroom just to see him sleep. Although I was the only one at home at the time he provided for the whole family. (my dad was a prison officer).
When I was 16, we moved to Tasmania as my parents bought a general store, sadly my dad lost his leg through diabetes, as the hospital was so far away I spent a lot of time running the store as well as completing school. On completing school, I had the marks to go to university however, seeing my dad coming home stressed I knew I did not want a stressful job so I thought I would work in a factory. However, working in factories I just could not handle the menial tasks. Some jobs I could last 3 months others a week.
By this stage I had met my first wife she was pregnant (my child), so we moved back to Tasmania as my dad had taken ill again we started to help out with the store. My brother had a heart to heart telling me to grow up asking me why I could not hold down a job? I explained it was mind numbing, he suggested I become a truck driver, so I took my test, fell in love with the job and never looked back. Sadly, I fell into the same trap as my father and worked every hour I could, I could be gone for three weeks or more, I had 2 children with my ex-wife, and we had been together for 10 years.
Our marriage ended because I was never home, I struggled with the breakdown, so I went to England for a working holiday. I met my second wife there; she already had a son (3) and had a career in the NHS. We have 2 children together and to allow my wife not to fall behind I became the house husband and she carried on working. I worked nights when we wanted holidays or had a big bill etc.
My intention was never to live in the UK, 6 long years later we moved back to Australia and for the most part its work out a treat. All 5 of my children live with us, my wife went back to university and completed her Bachelor of Nursing (something she has wanted from a young age). She has just signed up for a post graduate degree and I support her 100 percent.
Myself, I was assaulted at work 5 years ago suffering a broken neck and damage to my lower back. I have been told I will never work again due to the limitations placed upon me. I have had 4 lots of surgery trying to correct this. I try to look for the positives in life however not being able to provide for my family or do to much with them has caused some serious depression. Hopefully I feel like I am getting back on top with more good days than bad ones.
I have always had an interest in law so I decided to do a bachelor of law however, my wife was worried that I may not cope with the amount of study involved, so I completed an Advanced Diploma of Legal Practice through Victoria University Polytechnic that is a pathway to a bachelor of law at VU. I am now 53% through my degree. Sadly, with the Covid-19 our learning has moved to online and that is not working for me, so I am taking a break for the minute and enjoying the rest.
Australia’s First People
I have always believed they are their own worst enemy, after completing a legal unit on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people (which is not a core unit) my thoughts have changed, I understand why some are upset when it comes to land ownership. The government have made things so hard I am shocked any group has managed to become caretakers of their lands
When it comes to Australia Day/invasion day (as some believe) due to the way Captain Cook took ownership of the land. For those that feel the land has been invaded and have no native blood in them, should they not hand back any land they own to the local tribe and leave Australia to the home of where their ancestors came from, or is that too simplistic? Are they not hypocrites staying in a country that was illegally taken? Are they not also part of the problem?
What happened to the first nations people back in the 1770’s from onwards was wrong it was barbaric and shameful, I also look at the convicts who were ripped away from their families for stealing a loaf of bread, sent to the other side of the world, never to return, convicted to hard labour, whipped on a regular basis and did not live much better and most cases worse than the local tribes. I think what happened back then to most people was wrong. I think in 2268 people will look back on us and may think we are barbaric. We do what we THINK is right at the time.
The stolen generation, again I believe the government were trying to do the right thing by the children however, some people either in authority or those in charge of the first nations care took advantage and were cruel. At the same time across in the United Kingdom thousands of young children were removed from their families and shipped to Australia and New Zealand, told their parents had died, parents were told their children had died. This is no excuse for the stolen generation. It shows the times and the way the governments thought.
On the outside I am very chauvinistic, racist, homophobic, the old saying is ‘I hate everyone equally including myself’. Growing up in Australia in the 80’s that is the way it was. Nothing was meant by it; you used words to describe someone, these same words are still around today. Now it seems you need to be in a box to use that term to tell that joke describe that person, when did the world become so sensitive?
I really do not care who is gay, what sex you are, what you identify as, what colour your skin is, I do not understand why your sexual preference, sex, sexual identity or colour of your skin should define who you are? What defines a person is their values as a person, nothing else really matters. Being smart does not make you a better person, going to church every week does not make you a better person, being homeless does not make you a bad person. Judge a person on face value on them, not because they are X come from X identify as X, we are all different and that makes as all unique. So if we are all unique how can we possibly fit neatly into a box marked Y?
In the Victorian Parliament they celebrated the fact that there was an equal number of men v woman. The first thing I thought of was, how many of those women truly deserve to be there, how many men that have worked hard missed out because of a quota, how much poorer will Victoria be. Then the next question needs to be asked, where is the disability quota, that needs to be at 50% and it cannot just be people in wheelchairs.
We have 200 nationalities just in Victoria and only 128 seats in state parliament. The Assembly has 88 Members and the Council has 40 Members. How do we get equality there? Once we get equality in one area, it must happen in all otherwise it does not work. To find the perfect members for council, their family must have at least 5 unique nationalities, preferably 2 or more disabilities, transgender and believe in one of the many faiths. I think that goes some way to ticking a number of boxes. Sadly even if we could clone forty more we would still fall short somewhere in equality. Equality is more than sex, more than skin colour, more than faith. Most people feel they have had to work for everything and have been discriminated against at some point in their life.
In Australia, they have started to increase superannuation contributions for woman due to the wage gap. With woman having children, working less, single mothers, etc, etc, they feel woman need greater protection. I am sorry but in Australia men do not get a say when it comes to children. If a one-night stand results in a child and the man says I do not want a child I will pay for the abortion and the woman does not want the abortion so has the child, that man is forced to pay for that child up to the age of 18 (21 if they want to go to university).
Where is the man’s right, what happens if he wore protection, is not ready or does not want the responsibility of the child? I understand it is the woman’s body, so it ultimately her choice. Surely part of that choice is understanding that the male wants no role in that child’s life so why should he be forced to pay maintenance when it solely her decision?
A couple living together for many years, a woman gets pregnant, the man wants the child, the woman does not, the man has no rights. So, to say the woman misses out on superannuation, it is solely her choice when it comes to children. If she lives with her partner for several years, automatically she is entitled to part of her partners pension. Why? because she chose to stay at home to raise the children, this is why she gets a higher percentage in the divorce settlement. The system is already set up in place for this. Even if a woman does not have children, she will receive a higher superannuation contribution, how is this fair?
The family courts are set up to favour woman in custody disputes, police will side with wives when arguments take place, we have woman only gyms, safe spaces for woman, so many places for woman suffering from domestic violence. Yet where do men go when they are attacked by their partners, where do they turn when they are raped, where do they turn when their partner kicks them out on the street, what services to they seek when their partner walks out on them leaving them with the kids?
Certainly, my generation you were taught to work hard and deal with your problems yourself, slowly there are men’s groups getting out there but, compared to what woman have? No wonder men’s suicide is so high.
It annoys me that you go to any clothes shop where there is a separate men’s and woman’s changerooms. Woman will be allowed in the corridor to advise their partner, which is ok as everyone is behind a curtain or door, but men are allowed nowhere near the female changerooms as it can make females feel uncomfortable. Where is the equality?
When a woman is murdered or raped or hit by a man there is this outpouring of emotion ‘Violence Against Woman’. Does it really matter that it was a woman who was raped, murdered, attacked, should it not be that a human life was lost, that a fellow human was assaulted or are we saying that woman are the weaker sex and as such need more protection?
Every time I see a news story that goes something like, first woman to… to me it always makes woman look weaker as if they have something to prove, in truth they have nothing to prove millions of woman are stronger, faster, smarter than me so on and so forth, in return I bet I am smarter, quicker, so on and so forth than millions of others. We all have our own strengths and weaknesses. I loved horse riding as a kid, but I am not going to sue Racing Victoria because I am 6 foot 4 and weigh a 120kg. There is no way I could be a jockey.
I just wish we could get rid of quotas as all we are doing is dumbing down the world, draw up a set of guidelines and hold the people accountable that do the hiring and running the world. Let’s hope they are smart enough to hire the right people for the job and they are not blinded by what is on the outside. I do not care of the make up of my parliament. What I do care about is their policies and they are being held accountable. All they are doing is getting you to watch this hand while they pick your pocket with that hand, well that is my belief.
I really am enjoying your talks, not so much for what you say (although I agree with most of what you say) but how you listen to the question and answer the question without getting upset for the most part even when being baited. What a great skill to have and something I need to learn
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, once the world returns to its new normal, if you are ever in Melbourne and fancy a home cooked meal, you are more than welcome at my table.
Kind Regards

I have been a matched betting enthusiast for years and now I am teaching it for free to everyone.

Hey beermoneyukers!
After years working in my 9-5 job as a website developer for a large corporation I decided I could not face selling my soul any longer lols and packed in my job.
Since then, I had a stint working as a freelancer whilst also making a healthy side income via matched betting. And over the past 9 months I’ve been building a website that teaches people how to do the same.
There are a lot of websites out there that teach matched betting, but most require a monthly subscription and most have long articles that can be a bit dry and hard to follow.
So instead, I built a website, Team Profit, that:
  Is completely free
Uses animated video guides to teach people (link)
Has infographics to accompany all video guides
Provides step by step guides for 25+ bookmaker offer which will make you £600+ risk free (link)
I have amended the video script over 50 times to try to make it as concise and helpful as possible, hopefully they are a good watch!
Any feedback on the videos, guides, blog or anything else, please let me know, I spend every day adding new content and improving existing content.
If you are thinking of learning matched betting and making £600+ risk free, please check it out!
The video guides I posted above will teach you everything about matched betting.
However, I figure no harm in me writing down everything I know about matched betting in an FAQ style layout. Hopefully this will be useful to you.
I have tried to answer every question as concise as possible / no rambling :D
I have split the FAQs into the following sections:
1) What exactly is matched betting and how I do make money risk free?
2) How popular is matched betting?
3) Does it involve gambling?
4) How much money will I need to start?
5) How much time will it take me to learn matched betting?
1) How much money can I make matched betting from the welcome offers (new customer only)?
2) How much is a free bet worth in actual cash profit?
3) After I have finished the Welcome Offers, how much money can I make matched betting each month from Daily Offers (existing customer offers)?
4) What type of Daily Offers are available?
1) Which bookmakers have the best welcome offers?
2) Which bookmakers have the best offers for existing customers?
3) What is mug betting?
4) What is a betting exchange?
5) How do we use a betting exchange?
1) How sustainable is matched betting?
2) Will it impact my credit rating?
3) Do the bookmakers have terms to stop customers from withdrawing?
4) Do I need to know about sports?
1) Where can you learn matched betting?
1) Depositing and withdrawing
2) Sending identification documents
Any questions that haven’t been answered please add a comment and I’ll add the FAQ and answer.
1) What exactly is matched betting and how I do make money risk free?
There are more than 25 online bookmakers in the UK. In order to attract new customers, they each offer free bets, known as ‘Welcome Offers’.
In total they offer over £800 in free bets to new customers.
In order to receive the free bet, bookmakers require you to place your first bet. An example offer is ‘Bet £5, Get £20 free bet’.
The risk is that you could lose both the £5 bet (your own cash) and the £20 free bet.
By using a technique called matched betting, we remove this risk.
This is because we match our first £5 bet on the bookmaker with a £5 bet on a betting exchange on the opposite outcome (this is known as a ‘lay bet’).
For example, we bet £5 on Man Utd to win on the bookmaker, and £5 on Man Utd not to win on the betting exchange.
As we have now bet on all outcomes, regardless of whether Man Utd win, draw or lose, we will neither win nor lose money. However, we have received the £20 free bet!
With the £20 free bet, we can now repeat this process by betting on say Liverpool to win on the bookmaker and Liverpool not to win.
This time, because we are using a £20 free bet but our winnings are paid out in cash, we will always make a profit.
We repeat this process for 25+ bookmakers, one by one. In total we can convert the £800+ in free bets to over £600+ in actual cash profit, in very little time at all.
2) How popular is matched betting?
Matched betting isn’t new and has been around since at least 2005.
However, it is only since 2015 that it has really increased in popularity due to the rise of websites teaching matched betting. You can see this trend here: Google Trends Link
By looking at the various matched betting sites popularity, a reasonable estimate is at least 25,000 people in the UK are matched betters. You can see a review of sites that teach matched betting in the ‘Which websites teach matched betting?’ section below.
3) Does it involving gambling?
This is the most common assumption with matched betting. You’d be forgiven for thinking that it did involve gambling simply because the name ‘matched betting’ would suggest it did.
However, matched betting does not involve gambling, you will never be risking a penny.
Because we are always covering the opposite outcome occurring, there is never any risk we will lose money. Furthermore, we still receive the free bets which we will where we make our profit.
The profitability and risk free nature of matched betting has been reviewed in the Daily Telegraph and the Guardian
4) How much will I need to start?
You can start with as little as you want, however the lowest I would recommend starting with would be £25.
With £25, you can start your first bookmaker welcome offer and make a deposit into your first betting exchange, meaning you can start making a profit.
For more details, see this Starting with £25 guide.
The downside, with only £25 you are restricted by having to wait for withdrawals before you can move onto the next offer.
Therefore, I would say an optimal amount to have available for your cash flow would be in the region of £200 as this allows you to complete multiple welcome offers simultaneously.
5) How long will it take me to learn matched betting?
To learn the principles of matched betting, it will take up to 20 minutes.
To become familiar with completing your first offer, I would set aside another 30-60 minutes so you can take your time and ensure you are completing it correctly.
For example, the video guides on Team Profit last a total of 21 minutes (8 minutes for the explainers videos and 13 minutes to watch the step-by-step real time example). Although they last just 21 minutes, some users watch certain parts of the video again to become comfortable with the process.
It is very much recommended to avoid trying to learn matched betting by yourself. There are thousands of experienced matched betters who can help you. For more details on this, see the ‘Which Websites Teach Matched Betting’ section.
If you need any help anytime, please do comment in this Reddit thread and I’ll help you out.
1)How much money can I make matched betting from the welcome offers (new customer only)?
From the welcome offer, you can make approximately £1,000 cash profit.
There are 25+ bookmaker offers available on sports for at least £600 profit. These are relatively straightforward offers and good value in terms of time to complete. It would take around 12 hours to complete these offers, which works around £40 / hour tax free. You can complete them over any time period you like.
There are at least another 5 bookmaker offers, such as Bet365 and BetVictor, though these require more time, you could make around £100 to £200. They require more time because the bookmaker requires you to bet many more times before you can withdraw.
Plus 20+ offers across casino and bingo, though some are not risk free and typically take more time to complete, but you should be able to make at least £200 profit from these offers.
So overall, there is an easy £600 profit risk free, then up to another £400 if it’s worth your time to do them.
2) How much is a free bet worth in actual cash profit?
A £10 free bet is worth between £5 to £8 in actual cash profit.
The reason for the range is because the higher odds you choose for your free bet, the more actual cash profit you will make.
For example, if you bet on a football team with odds of 2.0, the £10 free bet will convert to around £5 cash profit. Whereas if you bet on a football team that is unlikely to win, with odds of say 6.0, the £10 free bet will convert to around £8 cash profit.
Note though, the higher odds you choose, the more you will need in your betting exchange account in case the bet wins. For a detailed explanation with examples, read this free bet profit article.
3) After I have finished the Welcome Offers, how much money can I make matched betting each month (from existing customer offers)?
Anywhere from £100 to £1,000+ per month.
Bookmakers continue to run free bet offers to retain their customers, I refer to these as Daily Offers.
Daily Offers are typically less valuable than the welcome offers but still worth completing.
For example, rather than ‘Bet £5 Get £20’ that they offer to new customers, they may instead run ‘Bet £20 Get £10’ and on a particular football match.
I would say for people with a day job, aiming for between £300 to £500 a month is realistic. In terms of time required, for every hour you spend, you should make around £30 tax free.
So to make £300 a month, expect to spend around 2-3 hours a week. I’d say to earn more than this, you will likely need to accept a lower hourly rate and do some of the low value offers too.
If you are looking to make £1,000+, I’d expect you would have to be near full time and also be fortunate to keep your enough of your bookmaker accounts open for 12+ month period (what is mugging bet FAQ below).
4) What type of offers are available for existing customers?
Easy offers:
The most common easy offer on football matches is Bet £20 Get £10 free bet. Many bookmakers run this offer, though it will usually be on a particular football match.
The most common easy offer on horse racing is usually on SkyBet, who will run simple offers such as ‘Get £25 free bet if your horse comes 2nd or 3rd’.
There are also easy casino offers, such as ‘£5 risk free’, where you spin on slots and hope to win, if you don’t they’ll refund up to £5 of losses.
These offers can make you up to £300 per month (or £500 on a good month with European football) and are easy for those with a day job.
Harder offers:
If you are looking to make more than £300 to £500 a month, then you will need to spend time on Saturday’s completing horse racing offers on Channel 4 racing and during the week too, though Saturday’s are the most profitable.
Plus you will need to do more advanced offers such as football accumulator refunds, each way offers, though I will leave these aside given they could have their own separate thread :p
If you’d like to understand where you can learn more about these offers, see ‘Which sites teach matched betting?’ FAQ below.
1) Which bookmakers have the best welcome offers?
There are 3 formats of bookmakers welcome offers.
‘Bet £X Get £Y free bet’ - these are the most straightforward. Simply place your first bet and receive a free bet.
This format of welcome offer, ranging from Bet £5 Get £20 to Bet £50 Get £50, is available on Coral, SkyBet, BetBright, Betfred, Paddy Power, BetStars, William Hill, Stan James, Betway, Ladbrokes, TitanBet, 32Red and MarathonBet.
‘Refunds’ (also known as Risk Free offers) - these are similar to Bet £X Get £Y free bet. The only difference is you only receive your free bet if your first bet loses, hence I refer to these offers are refund offers.
This format of welcome offer is, ranging from £10 to £50 refunds, is available on Bwin, Dafabet, UniBet, Totesport, 188Bet, SuperLenny, Genting and 888Sport.
‘Multi Bets’ - these welcome offers require multiple bets to be placed before receiving your reward. It can take form of a bonus which requires to bet £X amount until you can withdraw any winnings, or the form of a cash reward once you have bet £X amount.
This format of welcome offer is available on Bet365, BetVictor and some other bookmakers, however they often require such a large amount of betting that I haven’t included them in this list.
The quickest to complete are the Bet £X Get £Y due to their simplicity, then the next best are the ‘Refunds’ offers.
The Multi Bet offers can be very valuable (e.g. Bet£365’s offer is worth over £150 profit risk free) but can also require much larger deposits in order to place the bookmaker bets and lay these bets in your Exchange.
For details of each bookmaker offer, see this Welcome Offer List & Guides
2) Which bookmakers have the best offers for existing customers?
Bookmakers vary in their level of generosity to existing customers. This is a little subjective, but in my opinion, this is the ranking of bookmakers for existing customers:
Best: Bet365
Bet365 run a £50 Risk Free offer most months (sometimes twice a month during popular football months) which is worth £35. It is very quick to complete (less than 10 minutes) so for £35 to £70, or around £500 a year, it is a great offer.
Plus they have one of the best horse racing offers, up to a £50 risk free bet if your pick a winning horse with high odds. This is a profitable offer worth around £20-£30 a week, or up to £1,000 to £1,500 a year.
Second Best: SkyBet
SkyBet run regular £5 to £25 free bet offers on horse racing and football, plus regular £5 risk free offers in SkyVegas.
Third & Fourth Best: Coral and Paddy Power
Both these sites run regular horse racing, price boosts and football offers (Bet £20 Get £10 in particular), at least £20 to to be made on every week from these two sites.
Good: William Hill, Ladbrokes, BetStars, Stan James, Betway, Bwin, Betfred, Totesport, 188Bet, 888, BetVictor
All these bookmakers run offer(s) each week so it’s worth ensuring you have completed the welcome offer for each of these sites so you can take advantage of their daily offers for existing customers.
3) What is mug betting?
If you are only ever betting when you receive an offer, the bookmaker will no longer allow your account to receive free bet offers (this is known as being ‘gubbed’).
To get around this, you should place ‘mug’ bets. ‘Mug’ bets are simply bets that a ‘mug’ punter would place. Mug bets include £1 accumulators (betting on several teams to win) and betting on favourites without an offer.
Most advice suggests that for every offer you receive, you should place 2-3 mug bets.
If you are gubbed, it does kinda suck when you receive the email, as you can no longer profit from the bookmaker’s offers.
It is also becoming increasingly common as bookmakers are noticing more suspected matched bettors, due to its increasing popularity. My advice is to make money whilst you can and take sensible precautions to try to keep your account active.
For more details, see this Mug Betting article
4) What is a betting exchange?
A betting exchange is a marketplace for customers to bet between each other on the outcome of particular events. This differs from a traditional bookmaker because an exchange also gives you the ability to be the bookmaker yourself and take bets from other exchange users.
Standard bookmakers generate profit by offering odds that are in their favour. Betting exchanges explained in terms of how they generate revenue is they charge a commission on any winnings a player receives.
The two market leading betting exchanges are, Betfair and Smarkets.
For more details, Betting Exchanges Comparison.
5) How we use betting exchanges?
When matched betting, a betting exchange is used to place our lay bets (the opposite bet to our trigger bet). So when we place the trigger bet with the bookmaker on one outcome to release the initial free bet, we must also cover the opposite outcome so that if the bookmaker bet does lose we still win on the lay bet - making it risk free!
Similarly when we are placing the free bet bet with the bookmaker we then lay off that bet using the exchange and because we’re using a free bet but being paid out in cash, this is how we turn free bets into withdrawable cash.
We only ever use betting exchanges for lay bets.
1) How sustainable is matched betting?
Matched betting over the past 6-9 months has become harder. Most bookmakers have realised they are thousands of matched betters taking advantage of their offers and so have either reduced the generosity of their offers or have made the daily offers more complicated.
However, there is still intense competition between the bookmakers, meaning they will always run special offers to an extent.
By spending a few hours a week, you can still make £300 to £500 a month, whereas in past year(s) this figure could have been £500 to £800.
The biggest issue matched betters face is being ‘gubbed’. As explained in the mug betting FAQ, this is when a bookmaker restricts you from receiving free bets and bonuses.
There are various theories as to how a particular bookmaker decides to to gub a customer. Reasons include taking up too many offers, winning a high % of bets, withdrawing regularly, placing bets far in advance or at irregular times.
The truth is nobody really knows precisely why people gubbed. However, you can expect to get gubbed at some point from a particular bookmaker, it may be 2 months, it may be 2 years, it is hard to know.
I really think though that everyone can make up to £1,000 from the Welcome Offers and at least £300 to £500 a month without any problems. I think the issues comes when you are making £1,000+ every month which sooner or later bookmakers will catch up that you are taking up a lot of offers.
Having said this, some people say they have been making £1,000+ every month for years, so maybe it is possible if you are using a wide variety of bookmakers and consistently placing mug bets.
2) Will it impact my credit rating?
Having betting activity on your bank statement does not impact your credit rating.
The only thing to be wary of when making betting deposits and withdrawals is that it can affect your application for a mortgage. So if you’re planning on applying for a mortgage in the near future then I’d recommend using a separate bank account to that which you’ll be applying for the mortgage with.
3) Do the bookmakers have terms to stop customers from withdrawing?
The vast majority of welcome offers do not have any withdrawal restrictions.
A handful of welcome offers do but this will be state in the terms and conditions. It is much easier though to use a matched betting website as they will clearly highlight the key terms of each offer (see ‘Which websites teach matched betting’ section below).
Casino offers will almost always have withdrawal restrictions, however for the matched betting welcome offers we are focusing on sports betting.
4) Do I need to know about sports?
Not at all! You do not need a sports background or have any sort of betting knowledge, many matched betters do not know anything about sport or betting before learning matched betting.
You may learn matched betting a little faster if you have sports betting experience but it really isn't important at all.
There are 30+ websites that three key stages to matched betting:
Stage 1) Learning matched betting
Stage 2) Completing the Welcome Offers (for new customers)
Stage 3) Profiting in the long term from Daily Offers (for existing customers)
Below I have tried to cover the main sites that will help you with each of these stages.
In summary, I may be biased :p but I think the:
Stage 1) and Stage 2) best approach is to use
Stage 3) Join a paid membership site, either, or to continue to make money from the Daily Offers.

I really believe Team Profit is the best site to learn matched betting and complete the welcome offers, but compare us to the other sites and see what you think!
Learn matched betting with animated videos (link)
25+ Welcome Offers using the step by step guides (link)
A free Facebook group to provide help to you anytime you need (link). (link)
The advantage of MoneySavingExpert is the sheer volume of content, covering all aspects of matched betting.
The disadvantage of MoneySavingExpert it is not well structured as it is just one forum with a long lists of posts so it takes quite a while to find relevant threads and miss key information. (link)
The advantage of MatchedBettingBlog is the clear layout of the daily offers posted each day for with step by step instructions. It’s a good site to check to avoid missing the best and easier daily offers. The forum community also helps to post additional offers on top of those listed on the homepage, and also provides general advice on completing daily offers.
The disadvantage of MatchedBettingBlog is it is relatively limited in terms of teaching matched betting and does not provide a clear list of welcome offers. Also, for those looking to make £500+ every month, it doesn’t provide any software to help with the more advanced types of matched betting with daily offers, such as horse racing refunds and accumulator refunds, that the paid member sites offer.
Additional free matched betting sites include: (link) (Reddit thread link) (link)
Paid sites usually charge £15 to £25 a month.
In return, they will teach matched betting, provide list of welcome offers and provide daily offers too. Additionally, most paid sites will also provide software that helps to make you more money plus save you time. (link | non)
OddsMonkey charge £15 per month or £150 per year.
They are the most well known provider of matched betting software. Earlier this year, they added the full range of matched betting services, so now they provide all of the below:
Tutorial articles
Welcome offer step by step guides
Daily offers calendar
Software: OddsMatcher, Horse Racing Refunds, Tennis Refunds, range of calculators and spreadsheet
The advantage of OddsMonkey is the exceptional value. They have the best range of software and tools for matched betters to maximise their profits, are consistently bringing up new tools at no added cost. At only £15 per month it is one of the best options to consider.
The only disadvantage is the forum is not as busy as the next two options, ProfitAccumulator and Profit Maximiser. Though the forum is still a sufficiently active to ensure any questions have you are answered quickly.
Profit Accumulator (Link - Chazmer87's I don't have one | non)
Profit Accumulator charge £23 per month or £150 per year
Profit Accumulator helped to bring matched betting to the main stream with a highly active community. There are clear similarities between OddsMonkey and Profit Accumulator in terms of their high standard of software and offers.
The advantage of Profit Accumulator is their very active community. There is a great deal of advice in virtually every aspect of matched betting and the information is all well structured. Plus they have a very good offers coverage.
The only disadvantage to Profit Accumulator is the higher cost. The membership itself is £23 per month, plus their version of the Horse Racing Refunds software is £10 per month, or £115 a year. So in total you are paying £33 per month versus OddsMonkey’s £15 per month.
Profit Maximiser (Link | non)
Profit Maximiser is run by the original matched betting guru Mike Cruickshank.
Mike has been building software for matched betters for many years and has a very active Facebook Group.
Each piece of software is sold separately, I believe the below is accurate, each have their own £1 free trials:
Bonus Bagging £27 plus VAT - provides a list of all welcome offers and teaching (Link | non)
Profit Maximiser £97 plus VAT - provides all daily offers (Link | non)
Each Way Sniper £47 plus VAT - provides a horse racing betting system (Link)
Accumulator Generator £149 plus VAT - provides a football betting system (Link)
I believe Mike may have a couple more tools, if so I’ll edit this post if you could please comment / send me a message.
The advantage of Mike’s products is that there is no monthly recurring fee, so if you intend to do this for many months, it may work out profitable to do so. Plus from what I understand their Facebook Group finds some lucrative casino loophole offers faster than other matched betting providers.
The disadvantage of Mike’s products is that you have to buy each product separately rather than having it all within one simple account. Additionally, the total cost if you were to buy all 4 above listed products is £320 + VAT (total cost £384) whereas you could receive all these tools for £15 per month from Oddsmonkey. Having said that, Mike’s products do come with a £1 free trial, just be careful to cancel before the trial ends if you don’t want to continue.
Additional free matched betting sites include: Yes Bets link

1) Depositing and withdrawing
To ensure you qualify for the Welcome Offer, use a bank card to deposit into your newly set up bookmaker account. Most sites will allow Paypal too though check the terms and conditions.
If you use Skrill or Neteller, typically you will not qualify for the Welcome Offer (bookmakers have this rule to prevent fraud) but you can check the terms and conditions.
Withdrawing is easy, you should receive your funds within 1-3 working days depending on the bookmaker.
2) Sending identification documents
Occasionally, bookmakers may require to send in identification documents (passport or drivers licence for example) and a copy of your bank card. This is to prevent fraud. This usually happens if you are not listed on the Electoral Roll or there is a difference between your home address and billing address. Simply take a photo of the documents they ask for and email them back.
If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please do post a comment thanks!

Week 10 SEC vs SEC matchup preview

Hello all! Welcome to the third in the series of fan produced game previews. Sorry this one is later in the night than normal, but I have had a busy week. But, its almost Friday and that means that SEC football is almost here! Before we get to the previews we need to look at the winner of the guess the score contest from last week. The winner is u/joblanco40 and South Carolina! Jo’s prediction was 27-21 SC which was just three points away from the actual score of 27-24. This brings the score to Tennessee 1 South Carolina 1.

Texas A&M @ Auburn 12:00 ESPN

Texas A&M perspective by u/TryhardTim of

Well, that Mississippi State game left a sour taste in my mouth. Let’s hope that’s not a sign of things to come. (Also, shout out to Kirk Herbsteit, who (jinxed us on College Gameday last week)[])
This week, the Aggies will play their final road game of the season against the Auburn Tigers. It’s easy to call any game at this stage of the season an important game, but I want to stress how important it is for this Aggie Football team. We’re currently sitting at 5-3. One win will make us bowl eligible, but that was never really going to be a problem for this team. You see, this game is important because we need to build confidence before we hit the home stretch of the season. We *need a win this week. Let’s see how we can take care of business:
*What’s an offense???? Sheesh, last week was ugly. Like, not ugly in a kind of cute way, but ugly in a I-want-to-go-throw-up- after-seeing-that way. We still have yet to score more than two offensive touchdowns in any SEC game this year (We even got to overtime in one of those games). If this team wants to get a win against the SEC equivalent of Jekyll and Hyde, they need to get their act together on the offensive side of the ball. Namely, they need to improve in the red zone, where they have an appalling 38% TD rate against SEC opponents this year. Another problem the Aggies had last week was dropped passes. Like, a lot of them. Anyone who claims that the gloves that receivers wear make catching the ball too easy needs to watch the Aggie receiving group last week. If the offense can get back to the form that we saw in the first 4 weeks of the season (Mond being accurate with the ball and making plays with his legs, actually targeting Jace Sternberger throughout the game), the Aggies will have a good chance to win this game. *Are we becoming the “get right” team of the SEC West? Nick Fitzgerald was on the verge of being benched before he broke out and had a season-saving performance against us. This week, we get to face another struggling QB who has performed well against the Aggies in the past in Jarrett Stidham. Aggie fans do not need to be reminded of the absolute beating we took last year at the hands of Stidham and now pro running back Kerryon Johnson. To prevent what happened last week, the defensive secondary, led by a (for once) non-suspended Donovan Wilson needs to do significantly better than how they performed last week, where missed tackles and giving up too much space to receivers were all too common.
This game is a relatively simple one to preview. If the Aggies show up and play to their full potential, they will win this game. If not, this game could get ugly like last week’s game, and it’s time to start panicking about the now possible chance that we lose to Ole Miss at home. I feel as though Jimbo Fisher will be able to get our players back in form, and we can win in a stadium where we have had success since joining the SEC. **#BTHOauburn #WarEagleTigers? #AtLeastTheLonghornsLostToo
Texas A&M 20, Auburn 14
Auburn perspective by u/patsey of
Hey Y’all!
A quick note to the AU family: Kelly Bryant visited campus! Gus is back on his recruiting horse, Bryant is obviously the “highest value free agent ever” filling the void Jalen's dad created.
On the Field:
Gus Malzahn’s system revolves around the rushing attack. Boobie Whitlow has been what passes for a breakout star but is injured and likely out. Also in that stable is a senior walk-on in Malik Miller and a pair of talented freshmen in Shaun Shivers and Asa Martin. Martin was the highest rated of them all as a prospect but has only seen 6 carries this year, his fumble in the A-State game a likely reason for this. Kam Martin the day 1 starter is almost negligible as he is simply never good for more than 4 carries per game.
All this may be a relatively moot point as the O-line has been just putrid. There is some talent there but none besides right tackle Jack Driscoll is even holding his own. This is unlikely to change this week as A&M boast the 5th ranked rush defense in the country. The question is can they get straight through our O-line to Stidham.
Malzahn and Lindsey will likely need to lean on the passing game, maybe quick passing game if they expect to defend their honor in the eyes of recruits. The problem is the O-line was inexcusably bad against the pass rush of Miss State. Driscoll was injured in that game and that hole may have been patched but this exposes Stidham’s most glaring weakness, the way he responds to pressure. When his spidey sense goes off he instantly tucks to run and does so with the grace of an old Peyton Manning.
The Culture War:
Named after a 3 hole stretch at August National, Amen Corner is the name Pat Dye gave to the last 3 games of Auburn’s schedule- at the time Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. AU Athletics has since broken up that uphill finishing stretch by adding a cupcake in between Georgia and Alabama week. That term may be applicable again if we are going to play A&M at this time every year. There is no doubt the tectonic plates of the SEC West changed when A&M entered the league, and Jimbo’s hire was an earthquake for the rest of the division. Bama have proven they are still superior, but we will see how their recruiting is affected. LSU will catch them last in what may prove to be the new battle for 2nd place in the West.
Auburn had become the third best recruiter in the West behind Saban’s Bama and Les’s LSU. With A&M in the picture we could easily find ourselves 4th, and a loss this Saturday will only fuel that shift. Mississippi State has something to say in this too as they beat A&M last week and effectively throttled Auburn in their stadium. Traditionally they are not considered a recruiting threat but we have to wait and see what Moorehead’s first class looks like. Going in to the LSU game this year AU Family had great reason to believe Auburn could capitalize on Gus being the last face Les Miles saw on the battlefield. That was not to be despite a 10 point lead in that game, and now we are seeing Coach Orgeron show up in Alabama during his bye week to recruit in our state. To read an extended look at how this affects the big picture go to

South Carolina @ Ole Miss 12:00 SEC Network

South Carolina perspective by (the returning champion) u/joblanco of
South Carolina (4-3, 3-3) will be traveling to Oxford this Saturday to take on the Ole Miss Rebels (5-3, 1-3) in a cross divisional matchup that could be a good one. South Carolina was once again a terrible football team in the first half against Tennessee, continuing a trend that has just left Gamecocks fans everywhere completely stressed the fuck out. Tennessee was moving the ball down the field effectively and our defense was just being gashed by short and intermediate crossing routes. Guarantano rarely attacked the ball downfield, but he managed the team well and we were just out schemed in the first half, especially on the defensive side.
The defense wasn’t helped by the fact that South Carolina was just as worse on offense. Our running game was effective against Tennessee; we consistently set the edge and were able to get some good chunk runs down the field. It was just the passing game just would completely kill our momentum. Our passing game limited our offense to a point where Bentley received a healthy dose of booing for the second consecutive game. While Bentley did have his bad throws, that first half performance was NOT all him. Majority of the blame should go to the offensive coordinator, Bryan McClendon.
But!!! It all changed in the end of the first half. My own father, Deebo Samuel, just showed the SEC what just makes him so special as a player: one-handed grab in the endzone. He just absolutely saved Bentley too, because he definitely overthrew that pass. But it didn’t matter because Deebo is that dude and can jump to the moon. He gave our team the spark we needed to gain momentum into the 3rd Quarter, and we took advantage. Rico Dowdle (underrated football name, btw) just bullied defenders in that second half and finished the game with 140 yards rushing with a touchdown. His play, and Jake too, led our team back in another gritty, comeback win for the Cocks.
If they start slow against this Ole Miss team, then they might be going down a hole that will be too hard to get out. Ole Miss can be ELECTRIC if they get clicking. The game against Texas Tech was just a barnburner and Ole Miss looked unstoppable on offense. They’ve already scored more than 70 points twice this season. Led by the “Throwin’ Samoan” Jordan Ta’amu, this Ole Miss offense has weapons that can hurt the Gamecocks. AJ Brown is a first round pick (here’s a hot take: DK Metcalf is a better player), Scottie Philips is good, and they have a sneaky good tight end in Dawson Knox (another underrated football name). Their Oline is experienced, and Ta’amu is mobile enough to make plays with his feet.
This team is good on offense, but holy fuck they are awful on defense. They gave up 41 points to Southern Illinois. Southern Illinois. Do you know what the team name of Southern Illinois is? I bet you don’t. Don’t lie to me and tell me you do. They’re called the Salukis. The fucking Salukis. The only reason why you would name yourself after a Saluki, is probably because you’re an asshole. But that’s beside the point. Ole Miss is bad at defense. They lack depth at linebackers and the secondary (especially at secondary). Its so bad that they had to convert two running backs (who started this season as backup running backs!!!!!) into safeties. And these guys get meaningful snaps. If the Gamecocks don’t start fast against this team, then I’ve just lost hope that it’ll ever change while Bentley is at QB.
From a gambling perspective, this game is listed as a pick em’. I normally don’t like to bet on the Gamecocks, but this is looking to be like a win with some added value. I believe Will Muschamp will try to combat this prolific offense with an old school ideology: Keep them off the field. I think the Gamecocks run the football early and often against Ole Miss, and just milk the clock. Ole Miss has serious problems wrapping up, and the Gamecocks have good physical runners that can break tackles. Look for Deebo to get the ball out of the wildcat a bit more this game, and look out for sneaky big games from Ty’Son Williams and Mon Denson. I think the gamecocks play complimentary football with the running game, and make enough plays in the secondary on defense to maintain the lead against this high-powered offense. Also I'm pretty sure nobody will be at the game in Oxford since it starts at 11 am. So there's that too. Gambling tips for the game: South Carolina Pick em, UNDER 68 points.
32 South Carolina-27 Ole Miss
Ole Miss perspective by u/Rebbel228 of
This week the 4-3 (3-3) South Carolina Gamecocks visit Oxford and take on the 5-3 (1-3) Ole Miss Rebels. It’s going to be a great matchup for mediocre football provided to us by one of the worst in the East and the second worse in the West (thanks Arkansas). This is the first time these two teams have met since my junior year of high school when Ole Miss was ranked #4 and lost on a Thursday night in 2008, which personally is a game I’d like to forget.
(Editors note: the fact that these two teams haven’t played in nine years is ridiculous. We want a 9 conference game schedule!)
The Gamecocks are looking for their 5th win in hopes of becoming bowl eligible in the next 4 weeks. This is a must win for them, as Florida and Clemson are both on the docket for the month of November. South Carolina will be looking for some consistency this season after alternating wins and losses. They’ve been winning the games and they’re not supposed to and losing the games they’re not supposed to. Luckily for Ole Miss, that means this weekend looks pretty good for the Rebs.
Let’s be real. Ole Miss has been a dumpster fire this season. Granted, on paper, the Rebs don’t look that bad. They can score points. We all know that. They can’t stop the other team from scoring points though and that’s rough in today’s world high tempo offense. Ole Miss likes to score quick which doesn’t leave much time for the defense to rest. The key to this game will be the Ole Miss offense to play a good game with little to no mistakes and to for the defense to step up and make a few huge plays. Force turnovers, Jake Bentley has thrown 8 INTs this season and 1 or 2 turnovers can be very beneficial for the Rebs.
Mississippi is a sports betting state so I’ll throw a quick pick in. Pick your conscience. This game can really go either way, you’re picking the winner with this spread. This game opened Ole Miss (-1) but my local sportsbook currently (10/30) has this game as a PK. I personally am staying away from this game because I don’t like losing my money, but if I had to pick I’d take Ole Miss straight up, or whatever the point spread moves to by this weekend. From what we’ve seen of South Carolina this season, they start off slow and pick up in the second half. Ta’amu and Co. will have no problem scoring points early. This game will also most definitely go under 66.
It'll be an emotional game for both sides. Hotty Toddy, y’all.

Georgia @ Kentucky 3:30 CBS

Georgia perspective by u/DuragofJupiter of
Following a cathartic 36-17 victory over the Florida Gators in Jacksonville, the sixth ranked Georgia Bulldogs will continue their travels as they face the ninth ranked Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington this weekend in what is certainly an SEC East title decider, as a win for either side would give them an insurmountable lead in the race to Atlanta. In order for UGA to return to Athens victorious, the offense will have to continue the (mostly) mistake-free play it demonstrated against the Gators, while the Bulldog defense will have to tackle far better than they have throughout this season to contain the Wildcats’ powerful running game, which is led by their star tailback, the bruising Benny Snell.
Offensively, UGA will need to be at their best against Kentucky, as the Wildcats boast one of the nation’s best defenses. Kentucky currently ranks third in Defensive S&P+, and they are particularly dangerous against the run, as the ‘Cats rank ninth in Rushing S&P+, while their passing defense is also exceptional, ranking 12th in Passing S&P+. Kentucky’s defense also achieves the difficult feat of combining excellence at preventing explosive plays, ranking 12th in IsoPPP, with a top-15 Havoc ranking. Finally, Kentucky’s defense excels when their backs are against the wall, as they allow only 3.09 points per scoring opportunity, good for fourth in the nation. In summary: they’re damn good, and they’re the unit that’s powered Kentucky to 7-1 and a top 10 ranking this season and Georgia will have to be at their best to even move the ball against a defense this dominant.
Fortunately, the Bulldogs have some experience with defenses as talented as UK’s as they’ve already played LSU and Florida this season. While Georgia was overawed by LSU’s speed and physicality in Baton Rouge, UGA’s work during their bye week in between the LSU debacle and the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party clearly paid off, as the offensive unit was far more consistent against the Gators than it had been against the Tigers. In particular, Jake Fromm was far more in command against Florida than he had been against LSU, as he went 17-24 for 240 yards and 3 crucial touchdowns, including a pair of excellently placed fadesto Jeremiah Holloman and a perfectly thrown crossing route to Terry Godwin. Fromm’s performance against an athletic Florida defense has almost certainly quieted the calls for Justin Fields to start, and he will need to continue his efficient play against the Wildcats’ dominant defense, particularly given some of the recent struggles of the running game.
While the running game has been a strength for the ‘Dawgs this season, their performance against Florida could have been better, as the Bulldogs stunk in short-yardage against the Gators, particularly in the red zone. This was highlighted by Florida’s goal-line stand in the third quarter, when Georgia had 7 tries to gain one yard following a Feleipe Franks fumble, and got pushed backwards. Of course, some credit is due to the Gator defense for their efforts, but the Bulldogs must be better against Kentucky in these situations in order to escape Lexington with a win. I’d look to see Elijah Holyfield get more carries as he’s a bit more physical than D’andre Swift, which could wear down the Wildcat defense in the second half.
While the Wildcats’ defense is certainly legit, their offense is a bit… shit. Kentucky ranks 109th in Offensive S&P+, and their passing game is somewhat atrocious, as presumptive starter Terry Wilson has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns this season. However, despite his inefficiencies as a passer, Wilson is a dangerous runner on the option and as a scrambler as he’s run for over 400 yards and 3 touchdowns this season, and he’s got fairly good speed, as shown on hisTD run against Florida. Luckily for Wilson and the Wildcats, star tailback Benny Snell has been able to carry the offense on his shoulders despite the struggles of the passing game. Snell has toted the ball 179 times for 935 yards, and he combines speedwith a nose for the endzone, as he’s found paydirt 9 times this year. Snell will often take direct snaps from the center in short-yardage situations, and he’s even tossed a td pass this season. While Kentucky does have a few other threats, including sophomore receiver Lynn Bowden Jr, it is clear that Snell is the foundation for all of Kentucky’s offensive success.
While it is no surprise that Kentucky will run Snell as often as possible, Georgia will still have to stop him, which will prove a tall task for Georgia’s underperforming run defense. Despite the talent level across the UGA defense, the Junkyard Dawgs have been pedestrian against the run, ranking 77th in rushing S&P+, and they’ve both struggled to inflict negative plays, ranking 77th in stuff rate, and to prevent opposing backs from getting into the second level, ranking 105th in opportunity rate allowed against the run. However, if UGA can leverage Kentucky into passing situations, the Bulldog defense should easily handle the Wildcat passing attack, and could hopefully force a few turnovers as Terry Wilson is forced to test future NFL players such as Deandre Baker, J.R. Reed, and Richard Lecounte.
While Kentucky is having their best season in more than 40 years, I’d expect their dreams of a berth in the SEC Championship to end on Saturday against Georgia. The ‘Dawgs are too complete on all levels for Kentucky’s offense to keep up, particularly given their struggles with the passing game. Kentucky’s defense will keep the game close, however, and I’d expect the first half to stay relatively low-scoring, barring a spate of turnovers on either side. Nevertheless, Georgia’s offense will eventually wear down Big Blue defensively, and the Bulldogs will leave Lexington with an SEC East title and a date in Atlanta with the winner of the Alabama-LSU game.
Georgia 27- Kentucky 13
Kentucky Perspective by u/B1ackMagix of
In a shocking turn of events, the SEC east will be decided in Lexington against Georgia and Kentucky. While I believe Kentucky’s defense is up to the challenge it’s do-or-die time for the offense. Kentucky needs to pay attention to the strong Bulldog opponents past games to hopefully find some keys to victory. Offense
We’ve got a match made for our offensive line. Georgia’s pass defense is top notch (9th in the nation) while their rush defense leaves something to be desired (clocking in at a much lower 43). Compare this to the games we’ve already played and we’re looking at teams like Texas A&M (5), Mississippi State (15), And Mizzou (28). We’ve got a large opportunity to let Snell, Rose and Wilson do what they do best as long as they don’t put a spotter on Wilson. Charge those lines and get some rushing yards. If there’s a game to let our rushing offense shine, it’s here.
Don’t be afraid of the RPO though. Wilson made some incredible passes in the past 8 minutes of the Mizzou game and I hope that confidence carries through. We’ve proved that Bowden is a weapon to be used and we should try to get him some good looks.
Georgia is going to keep us guessing. They like to balance passing with the rush and aren’t afraid to take shots down field when they feel they can. Our defense will need to play top notch to stiffen their offense. Georgia is tied right there with Kentucky as far as sacks allowed go so Allen needs to get his name out there early. Make the offense settle for short gain plays and try to keep them out of their rhythm.
Outside Influences.
The crowd is going to be a factor. We need to be loud and proud and support our team. I don’t see this being a big issue, but it should be a sellout crowd and we should have blue and white be as loud as possible. Saturday is looking cold and cloudy in Lexington, so we should prep for that.
I think this game is going to be close. If Kentucky plays the best game of the season, then we could pull out the upset but that’s a big if. I do think the game will be a lot closer than people give us credit for. Kentucky will play hard but unfortunately our offense is lacking. Our defense won’t be able to cover the slack the offense leaves behind but it will be a close game.

Missouri @ Florida 4:00 SEC Network

Missouri perspective by u/Marc1221 of
First off, before we get into this game, let’s review the debacle that was last week’s Kentucky/Mizzou Game. I sure hope that wasn’t anybody’s first experience watching college football. It would have been their last. Mizzou got ZERO first downs in the second half and still would have won if either a) the officials didn’t make the worst pass interference call since the 2002 BCS Championship game; b) the remaining crew had the balls to overturn it; c) they run the ball with a late lead and trying to take time off the clock (see SC also); or d) Barry Odom knew something about clock management. But, hey, in the end, this is Mizzou in a nutshell. We are on the wrong end of these game-changing/season- defining/legacy-making calls all the time. It’s a cliché, but if it weren’t for bad luck, Mizzou sports would have no luck at all. The 5th Down. The Flea Kicker. The 1960 KU Jayhawk cheaters. Michael Porter. Jontay Porter. Tyus Edney. Norfolk St. Northern Iowa. And on…and on… and on. Anyway…
I doubt Mizzou shows up for this game. The players are saying the right things…they still believe…they are behind their coach, etc. But Barry Odom is a dead man walking if they lose this game. And part of me would not mind that scenario. Like on Survivor, when a team loses a challenge on purpose to get rid of someone on their own team. A win could energize the team against a relatively easy schedule the rest of the way. And maybe sweeten the prospect of landing Clemson QB transfer Kelly Bryant. And Drew Lock, God love him, has not shown in 4 years that he can lead Mizzou to a victory over any team of significance. Mock drafts still show him as a first round pick, but I would not want to be the GM that made that call. Of course, these mock drafts are made by people with no NFL draft experience, but I see him going 3rd round or lower. His inability to deliver early in his career was explained away because he played 3 sports in high school; he didn’t have time to focus solely on football like his peers. But there is no excuse for 8 CONSECUTIVE three and outs in the second half against Kentucky. That was the Missouri offensive output. 8 possessions…8 three and outs. This team has the talent to contend, but whether it’s coaching or Lock’s breakdown against superior defenses, they find themselves at the end of the season needing a must-win in the 12th game to make a mid December bowl game. I’m not saying they are Bama ready, but eight 3 and outs? How is that even possible?
So, about this game. Florida is 11 in the latest poll and has a couple impressive wins already. Even though they are coming off a tough loss to Georgia, they have a lot more to fight for than the Tigers. They are good in all areas but not great in any particular one, but a better than average passing defense will once again neutralize Drew Lock. We will see how much the Tigers are committed to Odom and this season, and three of their 4 losses so far are against top 10 teams, and they did reel off 6 straight wins last year after a disastrous start to became bowl eligible, including a win at home over Florida, but again, this year had so much more promise. I think you can stick a fork in this team. They are done.
Florida 27 – Mizzou 17
Florida perspective by u/dcspringer (and his wife apparently) of
Florida comes in this week following a loss that a score suggest was more one sided than it felt. The game spiraled out of control in a matter of mere minutes for the Gators, and showed that perhaps they are not ready to contend for crown of the SEC yet. But they are close, and they can get back on track this weekend when a high-powered Missouri offense rolls into Gainesville.
The Gators and Tigers do have something in common, they both have a loss to Kentucky, but the similarities stop there. This Florida team is much improved over that Florida team that lost to Kentucky, and Missouri seems to have regressed on the season. This game is more important for Florida than many give it credit for. Dan Mullen is facing the large conundrum of keeping his team motivated. The Gators making the SEC championship game at this point is an impossibility. Florida holds the clear advantage in talent on both sides of the ball, and the biggest question will lie on whether Gator QB Felipe Franks will deliver a performance worthy of bang or a dud.
The Tigers have the 23rd best ranked passing offense in FBS ball in terms of YPG. Florida, with its 11th ranked pass defense, will look to shut down a Missouri pass offense that has seen its fair share of struggles recently. Missouri has done a decent job of keeping Drew Lock upright, giving up only 10 sacks through 8 games, and that includes a game at Alabama. Florida, on the other hand, has done a decent job of getting to the QB 22 times in 8 games. Getting to Drew Lock should be an important point for the Gator defense to disrupt the passing offense of the Tigers and give the ball back to the Gator offense.
The contractually obligated FSU wife preview:
Florida is a swamp ass garbage team whose players are as criminally inclined as its fans. Spending one second in the swamp is akin to spending an eternity sitting on a boiling hot pile of garbage. It is no wonder that the team is a trash bag full of smaller trash bags full of elephant sh*t. I and the rest of the conscious world look forward to continue to watching it implode for the rest of time until there is nothing left in its place except a work camp for the criminally insane.
(Editors note: yeah… this checks out)
Florida has been a decent but not great team of running the football and using the spread offense. Think how the gators ran when Tebow was there under the glory days of MeyeMullen. Florida must do a better job of ball security and not allow Missouri to have their run of the field when they want. Expect Mullen to give Felipe Franks easy throws early and often to build confidence and allow UF playmakers to make plays in space. Missouri is a team that is as desperate, maybe more so than Florida is. But Florida just gets it done this week. They get off to a slow start due to the cocktail hangover, but open it up and get off to the races. Don’t be surprised if Mr. Jones shows up and shows out if things get fun.

Alabama @ LSU 8:00 CBS

Alabama Perspective by u/dbatchison of
Oh man, oh man, oh man, I am excited for this game. Some people will say that this is Alabama's first test of the year. Despite us really dominating the Alabama/LSU series for the past 7 years, this rivarly has always been awesome. Coach O has brought some much needed life to the Tigahs and really is the perfect person to hold the reigns in Baton Rouge. When I was growing up, LSU absolutely dominated the series winning 7 of 8 between 2000 and 2007. I was a junior at Alabama for our 9-6 defensive slugfest and went to the championship game in New Orleans that year. Following the game, I experienced the perfect summary of what Alabama vs LSU is all about:
While standing in front of Fat Catz on Bourbon Street, a crying, gorgeous, blonde tiger fan yelled between tears and quick breaths "SUCK... THAT TIGAH... DICK, BITCH!" at me while throwing a full unoppened can of bud light, hitting me square in the jaw. She then ran up, hugged me, and started making out with me. Ending her passionate embrace, she shoved me away and stumbled away into the crowd, blending with the masses as quickly as she appeared, vanishing away into the night.
I believe this is a perfect summary of the Alabama-LSU rivalry. We love to hate each other. Corndogs, I expect a hell of a fight and am eagerly anticipating it. Roll Tide. I also believe this rivalry (along with the Iron Bown) needs a trophy. I suggest having a large, gold plated Gumbo Pot something this size mounted on a base with placards riveted around the sides of the pot featuring the games. The team that wins keeps it until next year. I don't like the name "the Saban Bowl" because this rivalry goes all the way back to the 1900s. It should be called something else, the "Boudin Bowl"... the Cajun Confrontation... the "At least we're not Mississippi" Showdown... the Corndog Combine... idk, something like that
35 Alabama-24 LSU
It really hurts me to say I have no LSU preview this week. Alas, 5 outa six aint bad. As always if you would like to write a preview pm me! It’s a first come first serve basis so even if someone wrote for your team this week they may be available next.

That innovation is gonna speed up? Yeah, statistics show the exact opposite.
That is the crux of our bet then isn't it. You say no. I say yes. And only time going forward will tell us who was correct. But I think that even the next three years will bear out that I am correct.

When you wish upon an algorithm: Will Sophia ever be real? by izumi3682 in Futurology

[–]izumi3682[S] 1 point 1 month ago
Short answer: Yes, but it's going to take about 30 more years I'm thinking.
I see two different things going on with "Sophia". There is "Sophia" the bipedal robot. And there is "Sophia" the narrow AI. Both are pretty primitive yet in 2018. But "Sophia" serves an important purpose. I opined on that earlier if you are interested. Will "Sophia" ever become body and mind? Not any time soon I don't think.
But there is something else going on here too. A development I don't think is healthy for humans. The external narrow AI mixed with robotics, but even without robotics is ever improving.
I don't know if we will ever come up with what could be defined as AGI. It would have to be an awful lot of things to get the designation of "general".
But like I have always maintained, we as humans need to work as fast and as diligently as we possibly can to bring this kind of computing, this kind of narrow AI in direct coordination with the human mind. We have to make it part of us. We have to "merge" with it.
Because one way or another the "technological singularity" is going to happen. And it is going to happen very likely before the year 2045. That is not very long from now. Best if we have that AI and computing as part of us rather than external from us. But either way, it will no longer be business as usual.

Today's Deep Learning "AI" Is Machine Learning Not Magic by izumi3682 in Futurology

[–]izumi3682[S] -2 points 1 month ago
You know, it starts to get very difficult to tease out what is physics and what is magick since about 2015. I see things today that I cognitively understand is merely application of physics, but there is a part of my perceiving mind that is like; "Holy GOD, this is getting crazy!"
I am seeing things with my pre-2015 mind and it is still staggering to me. I so very clearly recall in 2015 and 2016 the many robots that were bipedal or quadrapedal that had support harnesses, power cables and moved like as fast as paint dries.
In 2016 the "Handle" came along. In 2017 Atlas did a backflip. In 2018 Atlas did astonishing parkour style movement. In 2019 the spot mini goes on sale to the public. Yes, its just applied physics to include the physics of binary computing, yet it is just boggling to me now. I think I speak for all laymen when I say we see what looks like "magick" to us.
The new classical computer architecture of the CNN/GAN (convolutional neural network/ generative adversarial network) that also did not exist before the year 2015 is doing things that also to my somewhat ignorant eyes look like magick. The experts are like; "Settle down, settle down--this is no big deal. We have been struggling with these things for decades."
Well us laymen haven't been aware of your decades long struggles. We see crazy unfolding around us on a monthly if not weekly basis. We see phase changes that are months rather than years apart.
I recall when I first saw the "Knightscope". I had a moment of cognitive dissonance. This is real? What this thing can do is real? I did not believe it at first. I thought it was some kind of motion picture promotion perhaps. But the "Knightscope" was real.
I digressed there. I meant to go on about the CNN/GAN. What it is doing is well, magick to my uninformed eyes. I know it's not magick. In fact I know it's not even intelligence. But damn that "Google Translate" blew me away the first time I saw it. Hell it even accurately reproduced the fonts and colors!
I just posted a video today I came across about just what exactly the GAN is doing now. Take a look at the video. Sure its just applied physics, but damn is it crazy awesome to behold the effect of it all. It was a surprise to me to learn that the GAN can also do molecule research too. I wonder what else it can do. Next year. In two years.
I'm an early adopter of VR. I got my Oculus Rift in March of 2016. The only thing that is realistically holding me back from using that technology all the time is what a hassle I have to go through to put that jaw-dropping world before my eyes. When the hassle goes away, well, good luck getting me to leave the applied physics/magick of VR. Because even as primitive as it is today in 2018, damn it's awesome!
If you had told me in like 2012 that we would begin to be able to develop technology that could potentially slow, stop or even reverse aging, I would have said. Well sure in some kind of indeterminate distant future. But not too much longer after 2012 we started fooling with worms and mice. And the results we saw were staggering and sobering. Now today in 2018 we have active human trials of Metformin and senolytic therapies to see if it can moderate the process and effects of what we perceive as "aging".
All of these things since about 8 years ago. 2012... Yes, a lot of it does look like magick to the bulk of humanity. It's coming too fast too. Them E-SDVs. How is such a thing possible? No wonder everyone is skittish about them. We haven't had 50 years to get used to the idea. We've had um, three years.
And like Mr Al Jolson said in the very first "talkie" of 1927; "You ain't heard ("seen" for us today) nothin' yet!

I see how this is going to work now. Remember your landlines? One day you got your mobiles and them mobiles reached a threshold of efficiency and convenience that outshined your landline. You kept your landline around for what, a couple more years, but then decided that, well, you weren't really using it that much any more and started to wonder if keeping a landline was cost efficient for you. I decided a while back it wasn't. Sure there are lots of people that still maintain a landline, but that number falls by the year. One reason is that your landline can't do anything but make phone calls. How 20th century is that?
Cable? the same thing. I cut my cable cord years before most did. And I never looked back. Remember that Bruce Springsteen video? "57 Channels and nothing on"? Exactly. We find what we want to watch on our widescreen flat monitors (please tell me you don't still call them "TVs"), with almost preternatural AI/hive mind precision.
These E-SDVs. Everybody and their brother is going to try one out as soon as they possibly can. Just to see what it's like. Just out of sheer curiosity...
Then the magic is going to take hold. Wow this is easy to do. Wow this is pretty fast and efficient. Sure we will still use r cars to get around and do things. But an unstoppable trend will begin.
We will start to use our POVs less. They will sit in the drive as we use such incredibly convenient new technology to get to places we need to get to. And remember them E-SDVS are gonna get better and better too. Just imagine what an E-SDV is going to be like in like 5 years say.
You do understand that this new generation of transport is not being developed with ownership in mind, don't you? This is meant to be a low cost subscription service. Now at the outset tons of people will continue to use their own vehicles. But I bet you that tons of people will also choose the new road of the E-SDV. No fuss, no muss.
A lot of people in the USA don't have that much money really. I would not call them poverty stricken, but it would not take much of a push for them to just adopt the dirt cheap, and it's gonna be dirt cheap--that's kind of the point of all this--E-SDV service to get around, over the hassle of keeping a big 'ol horse, er I mean car in your driveway.
I think the change is going to come very fast. There is historical precedent for that rapid of change. Watch.
And not very much longer after that, I bet you see society start to change as well. Attitudes towards the manually driven, internal combustion engine...
And of course bear in mind, this being futurology and all here, that this is not going to take place in a vacuum either. Other just as significant technological advances like ARA (AI, robotics and automation) and emerging technology like VAMR for instance will also comprehensively change the patterns of our society. And in ways that we today can't effectively imagine.
Well this is what it means to move ever closer to the "technological singularity". I would not go so far as to say we are in the pre-singularity today. But the soft singularities of the mobile, the E-SDV (or E-SFV even!) and the ARA encompassing ever more of our societies functions are but ten years out now. We could have big trouble with ourselves, on account of all this, in ten years time too for that matter. Hopefully humans understand what is happening and we resolve to see this new "technium" through to the complete betterment of all of human civilization.

'AI is very, very stupid,' says Google's AI leader, at least compared to humans - Be aware of the limits of artificial intelligence, not just the hype. by izumi3682 in Futurology

What do you rationally expect in five years time regarding natural language recognition by narrow AIs?
What do you rationally expect in five years time regarding the capability of narrow AIs to write in such a style as to be indistinguishable from a human?
My "blind faith" is not so much in the narrow AI itself. My "blind faith" is rather based on what humans want to do. And I think humans have big plans. Not just in a commercial sense, but in the sense that humans want to understand consciousness, self-awareness and general intelligence. And humans mixed with computing power and our extant narrow AI will come up with things much faster today going forward than in say the last five years. Do you disagree with that?
I have "blind faith" that in five years time we shall know considerably more about how the human mind operates and what consciousness is. We won't have all the answers, but in five years we will certainly have some new insights compared to what we know today.

I am not an AI expert. But I understand how humans progress. This narrow AI, in its many forms, will become more and more sophisticated. As one year goes by, as two years go by, the narrow AI will ever improve on the things it is not so good at today, plus it will continuously blaze new boundaries. Because that is how humans work. In five years time narrow AI will do things poorly that are unimaginable today. Things like generalizing perhaps. But by the same token, narrow AI will be able to understand anything you say, perhaps even in context of how you say it, in five years time.
Today I understand that AI is not even actually "I". There is no "I" yet. What it is is fantastically fast computing speed mixed with nearly unfathomable amounts of ("big") data and filtered through computing architecture that was a physical impossibility even 5 years ago. And that computing capability is about to make a quantum leap, not just in quantum computing, but the soon to be realized exa-scale classical computing. Five years from today is going to see some new animals I have no doubt.
So yes, AI today is very (very) stupid. But a better way of putting it is that AI today is simply computing yet. We (the laymen) are starting to perceive that computing capability as some kind of "magick". It feels like intelligence is at work. The day will come, sooner than later I bet, that AI will have genuine "I".
We are on notice to be ready for that day.

My apologies. I did not perceive it as a rhetorical question. The way I perceived the question is; "Would Hitler have kept on if he could have?" I disregarded the world destruction part, because it wasn't historically relevant to me. I just emphasized how important it was that Hitler was stopped.
But to answer your rhetorical question. Yes he would have used all technology at his disposal. He would not have hesitated to launch nuclear tipped V-2s at England if he could have. He was an utter madman trying to develop an atomic bomb. If you think of this in terms of the cold war, the USA and the Soviet Union had no AI to keep things in check. They only had the starkly realistic fear of MAD. They feared things like launch on warning. And even with that there were many close calls. We were ungodly lucky the world or rather humanity, was not destroyed during the cold war.

Designer Babies, and Their Babies: How AI and Genomics Will Impact Reproduction by dwaxe in Futurology

[–]izumi3682 4 points 1 month ago
It is very likely the (hopefully "human friendly") "technological singularity" will have occurred by the year 2040. The world of 2040 is going to be as far removed from us here today as today is removed from the 1700s.
Humans will have the ability and occasion to begin to merge into non-living forms. Humans who choose not to take advantage of these technological advances will simply die of old age for example. But you know what? I know humans. 98% of humanity will delightedly embrace these changes. We will wonder how on Earth we ever got along without them. It will be natural as breathing.
And consider this...

I have not seen an E-SDV in real life yet.
But I am like that fellow in some Midwestern city in 1905 that has never seen a horseless carriage in real life yet. But five years later he sees them all the time. Dozens, even hundreds at once.
Watch how fast the world around you can change.
So I am at that interim watchful waiting stage between today and five years from today.

Designer Babies, and Their Babies: How AI and Genomics Will Impact Reproduction by dwaxe in Futurology

[–]izumi3682 11 points 1 month ago
“This must be regulated, because it is life.”
This is such limited thinking. I guarantee you we will not be thinking this way by the year, say, 2040. The changes that will be occurring to the human species even by then will be such that for one thing human reproduction will be accomplished in it's entirety, "in vitro". Like in that scene from "Logan's Run" in vitro. And that is if humans of the year 2040 choose to reproduce at all. The merging of computing power and AI applications with what we think of as the human mind today will result in concepts and outlooks that we simply can't imagine today.
This might seem on the surface terribly "Future Shockey", but it is the normal progression of physics in the universe (our portion of the multiverse). And these "changes" run precisely in accordance with all of human recorded history. All that has gone before.

would result in world destruction, would he have continued?
That was not a concept during Hitler's lifetime. For anybody.
You do not know how lucky we are today that the Soviet Union absorbed and destroyed most of the German War machine at the cost of 20 million Russian military and civilian dead. 6 million German soldiers died on the Russian front. If Hitler had not invaded the Soviet Union, Germany would have owned western Europe, the UK ("Operation Sea Lion" was postponed because Germany was setting up for the east. Could Germany have eventually gained air superiority over the UK? Because of "Operation Barbarossa", we will never know.) and north Africa.

In three years, Cyberdyne will become the largest supplier of military computer systems. All stealth bombers are upgraded with Cyberdyne computers, becoming fully unmanned. Afterwards, they fly with a perfect operational record. The Skynet Funding Bill is passed. The system goes online on August 4th, 1997. Human decisions are removed from strategic defense. Skynet begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 AM, Eastern time, August 29th. In a panic, they try to pull the plug.
Sarah: Skynet fights back.
Me: Yep we seem to be right on track! But make that date more like about 2025 and you'll have it. In 1997 we did not have the computing power, data capacity or AI architecture (functional "convolutional neural networks") to run it all. Now we do.

Radiologists Focus on AI Innovations by izumi3682 in Futurology

[–]izumi3682[S] 1 point 1 month ago
Any device that collects data or images, not only in the medical field but in any field that has machines that do such, will within the next ten year have intrinsic narrow AI attached to it that will interpret said data or images, as part of the machine's performance, for human use. An x-ray machine that reads the x-rays for you too?
As an x-ray tech I had been wondering what might be even more fantastical than direct capture digital radiography. The images develop in less than one second and appear on high definition monitors with anatomical detail resolution that old analog film can't touch. No need for a hot light--no need for a magnifying glass. Absolutely jaw-dropping to me. In 1981 I was taught how to obtain and develop x-rays in a manner virtually identical to the way it was done in the year 1900.
Here is a link to my personal journey through this technology if you want more detail.
If the advances in other technologies are on par with the advances in radiographic imaging, then the next ten years is going to blow society away. Anyone who has doubt that we are not living in exponential times merely needs to look around at everything and compare it to just ten years ago. Seen any phone booths lately? Twenty years ago it was as different a world from today as today is going to be different from probably about ten years from today.
My point being that if you think of what the world looked like in the year 1918 and then compare it to today. That same time scale of difference is going to be evident in the next twenty years. And the societal changes that will accompany it.
It is no accident I am here posting and commenting in futurology. It came to my attention in the year 2011 that something was seriously going on in computing and other technologies. Today we are seeing HPC (high performance computing) on the cusp of the exa-scale. The second generation of VR is going to arrive in about one year. Countries are dedicating massive funding to fusion power, not to mention dozens of private efforts. It was only about 2 years ago, 2 years ago, that ambulatory robots needed suspension harnesses and large power cables to operate. Look how fast we have gotten used to seeing bipedal robots running around like humans. The mini-spot goes on sale to the public in 2019. The E-SDVs are going into mass operation in 2019. Two new start-ups are competing against a market that the Da Vinci medical robotic surgical aid had to itself for the last two years.
And now I am reading serious educated people talking about the inevitable and imminent development of AGI. Something that would have been thought physically impossible ten years ago. Shoot it was thought physically impossible one year ago. But humans won't be held down and now they have exponentially improving HPC and narrow AI to help them think even faster than before.

'A.I. is not gonna replace people,' says Salesforce executive (By Jingo!) by izumi3682 in Futurology

[–]izumi3682[S] 2 points 1 month ago
ARA (AI, robotics and automation) is "gonna" replace enough people that we will reach a societal critical threshold of unemployment and that the replacement of any other people beyond that threshold would be a moot point.
But the bottom line is everybody replaced in less than 20 years. In ten years it could potentially cause societal upheaval if we don't have economic safeguards in place.
This is the natural way that our civilization and species progresses. It might seem awful sudden to us, but it is precisely in line with the way things have worked so far.

"Sift". I sift through articles with similar themes many times a day.
But anyway. Here is the important takeaway.
So: The free energy principle offers a unifying explanation for how the mind works and a unifying explanation for how the mind malfunctions. It stands to reason, then, that it might also put us on a path toward building a mind from scratch.
Also here is an in depth explanation of the principle.
I think consciousness, self-awareness, general intelligence and abstract, non-symbolic associative thinking is a mere "side effect" of being biologically alive. Whether we use or even require any of those principles in developing AGI remains to be seen.
I kinda put it like this.
